Cannes Film Festival - Movie Reviews Indiana Jones And The Crystal Skull

Film critics who held off their reviews of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the
Crystal Skull when it premiered at the Cannes Film Festival last weekend are
having a go at it today (Thursday), the official opening day of the movie. Manohla
Dargis in the New York Times gives it merely a so-so critique. "There's plenty
of frantic energy here, lots of noise and money too, but what's absent is any sense
of rediscovery, the kind that's necessary whenever a filmmaker dusts off an old formula
or a genre standard," she writes. But who needs that? Ty Burr seems to ask in the
Boston Globe. What audiences want, he remarks, is "engaged nostalgia, I think,
and on that level Crystal Skull delivers. This isn't a reinvention but a reunion,
of characters, creators, even techniques." Mick LaSalle in the San Francisco Chronicle
faults director Steven Spielberg for insisting on making the action nonstop,
resulting in what he calls "probably the worst of the Indiana Jones movies." Nevertheless,
he adds, that action "is more inventive, more lovingly detailed and a lot more pleasurable
than anything you could hope to see in [other] action movies." Stephen Hunter in
the Washington Post welcomes back "the hero." There's a pleasure, he writes,
in seeing the Indiana Jones character. He "hasn't a crystal jaw, much less a glass
one. Hit him, he gets up and hits you back. He always figures out a way to win. ...
It's romantic manliness at its purest, almost but not quite schmaltz, ideally calcula
ted to please true believers and ironic snorters at once."

Juno star drops out of Rami horror movie

Actress Ellen Page has pulled out of Sam Raimi's new horror movie 'Drag Me To Hell'.
The 'Juno' star had agreed to play the lead role in the film, however scheduling conflicts have now forced her to withdraw.
Shooting was due to get underway on March 17 in a bid to wrap before the possible Screen Actors Guild strike on June 30, but was then delayed.
However, the new date clashed with Page's forthcoming roles in psychological thriller 'Peacock' and Drew Barrymore's directorial debut 'Whip It!'
A statement from producers Ghost House Pictures and financier Mandate Pictures, read: "We were racing to start production so that we could accommodate Ellen's schedule.
"But like so many other productions trying to start before the potential SAG strike date, this one needed more time and we had to push back the start of production."

Tori Spelling says she's expecting a girl

Former 'Beverly Hills 90210' star Tori Spelling and her husband Dean McDermott are expecting a baby girl.
Spelling, who already has a one-year-old son with McDermott, revealed the news to People magazine.
The 34-year-old actress said: "I've always wanted a little girl since I'm such a girly girl, and Dean always wanted a little girl as well."
Speaking about when she was told that she is having a girl, she said: "I immediately started crying. I couldn't believe it. I have my beautiful little boy and now I'll have my little girl. It's amazing."
Spelling also said: "I can't wait to be a great mom and friend to her. I'm a little nervous to have a girl."
"But mostly, I'm just excited for the same reasons - to prove to myself that I can be an amazing mom to a little girl."

Spears' behaviour sparks fresh concerns

Singer Britney Spears has sparked fresh concerns for her well-being after reportedly having another "public breakdown".
According to People magazine, the singer was spotted arguing with her friend Sam Lutfi as they returned from a short drive around Beverly Hills.
The magazine reports that Spears looked "visibly distraught" as she jumped out of the car at her home.
She then reportedly wandered around with her dog London in her arms, before sitting on a pavement, while paparazzi were snapping photographs of her.
Onlookers said that she "looked completely lost" and had tears in her eyes.
But the singer later told the photographers: "I'm fine. I'm... having a nice time with my dog."
The report also claims that Spears' most recent boyfriend Adnan Ghalib was later refused entry to her house.

Fourth Bourne film still a possibility

Actor Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass have been discussing whether there will be a follow-up to 'The Bourne Ultimatum'.
Speaking to Empire magazine at the Empire Awards about the speculation regarding a fourth film, Damon said: "I think it's one of these stories that has a life of its own. Not that we're against it, we're all for doing a fourth movie but it means coming up with a good story. There are a lot of things that would have to happen before we would sign up for it."
Reacting to Damon's response, Greengrass said: "He says yes? It's news to me. I think the truth is that it's a very well loved franchise, but we're in the process of trying to work out what kind of film you could make."
He continued: "If there is one, what would it be? How it could go? Without any pressure; without any commitment to it, but everybody loved the franchise. We love it, but none of us would want to go again unless we're sure there's a worthwhile film and that could take some time. You don't want to do that when you feel like you've got to make it and none of us need to, so that's where we are".

Elvis Presley - Elvis Medicine Bottle And Eltons Toaster To Be Auctioned

An empty medicine bottle from ELVIS' Graceland home and a toaster belonging to SIR ELTON JOHN are among the bizarre celebrity artifacts up for auction to raise money for charity.

Items including a Christmas card from Sir Paul MCCartney to Adam Ant, a wooden spoon signed by late Beatle John Lennon and Yoko Ono in 1969, will go under the hammer in New York in aid of the Music Rising organisation.

The charity, which was co-founded up by U2 guitarist the Edge, aims to help musicians in New Orleans affected by 2005's Hurricane Katrina.

The auction takes place on 31 May (08).

Happy Mondays - Bez Bankrupt Again

HAPPY MONDAYS dancer BEZ has been declared bankrupt for a second time in less than four years.

The English star, real name Mark Berry, was first declared bankrupt in August 2004, but won $100,000 (GBP50,000) after taking part in a British reality TV series. He vowed the money would go towards paying off his debts - but on 31 March (08), he was once again declared insolvent at London's High Court.

Berry found fame with the Happy Mondays in the 1990s, with whom his unique dancing style became legendary. The band released their last album Uncle Dysfunktional in August 2007.
